Give Used Textiles a Second Life

Body

Instead of throwing away clothing, shoes, and other textiles, help keep them out of the landfill. The Sustainability & Resilience Department and MarBorg Industries remind you that clean, lightly used textiles can be dropped off for free at MarBorg’s Goleta Recycling Center at 20 David Love Place in Goleta.

The latest results are in from our partner Homeboy Threads, and the Sustainability & Resilience Department is pleased to report that of the 8,525 pounds of textiles received at MarBorg's Goleta Recycling Center since the program's launch in February, only 11 pounds were sent to the landfill!

Textiles Received: 8,525 lbs
Textiles Resold: 2,694 lbs
Textiles Recycled: 5,280 lbs
Textiles Disposed Of: 11 lbs

The average person throws away 100 pounds of clothing a year, making textiles a huge part of our waste stream. Accepted items include clothing, hats, gloves, scarves, shoes, matching pairs of socks, towels, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, curtains, fabric scraps (minimum size of 8.5" x 11"), backpacks, purses, and luggage in good, working condition.

Collected textiles will be transported to Homeboy Threads in Los Angeles, where they will be sorted and processed for donation, resale, or recycling, giving them a second life and reducing waste.
