Title

Sea Level Rise Interactive Hazard Maps

Body

The following maps provide projections of areas that could be affected by flooding and erosion resulting from sea level rise (between 0.8 feet and 6.6 feet) if no adaptation actions or interventions are taken by the City.

Other hazards unrelated to sea level rise exist in the City, which are not shown on the maps below, including inland flooding from heavy rainfall. Please refer to FEMA Flood Maps to see the areas at risk to inland flooding from heavy rainfall.

Sections

Coastal Flooding Map

The Coastal Flooding Map depicts areas that could be impacted by flooding from coastal storms and high tides under future sea level rise conditions. The map assumes no projects were implemented to adapt the waterfront to protect it or inland areas from flooding and erosion.

Please note - the map does not include additional flooding from rainfall and stormwater, which could exacerbate the coastal flooding beyond the areas depicted on this map.

Shoreline Erosion Map

The Shoreline Erosion Map depicts where the beach could be regularly eroded and submerged for several hours each day under future sea level rise conditions. The map assumes no projects were implemented to adapt the beaches to protect them from erosion. However, for this analysis, it was assumed that Shoreline Drive and Cabrillo Blvd. would be protected in place and beach erosion would not extend past these roads.

Please note – the map does not depict short-term flooding and erosion caused by extreme high tides, large waves, and coastal storms, which can extend significantly further inland than the shoreline positions shown here.
